Minyan Organization
The Movable Minyan*, begun in 1987, is a Jewish non-profit religious
organization completely run by volunteers. We are a tax exempt membership organization
that on a budget less than what some congregations spend on their office
copier, creates a full Jewish year of services and activities. We do this
by operating as a small cooperative synagogue. All Members are asked to
participate in a set-up schedule, and if they are willing, in leading
services reading Torah and giving drashot (interpretations of the Torah)
and teaching the children. An elected president and board of directors
organize these activities. In its early years, the minyan moved from living
room to living room, hence the peripatetic name. Though most activities are
at our home at the Institute of Jewish Education at 8339 W. Third St., some
activities continue to be held in members’ homes.
